M2A1 105mm US Field Howitzer
Modeling the U.S. Army in WWII

The 1/72 scale howitzer from Ace Models (#72527) does a good job of capturing the essential elements of the ubiquitous field artillery piece. The parts are not as cleanly and crisply cast as one would find in a Dragon kit, so a bit of cleanup necessary. There were some slight sink marks in the trails that needed a dab of putty.

The two most glaring problems are the lack of tread on the wheels and inaccurate inclusion of the trail spike that is inserted into the left trail—in spite of the fact that it also is represented as stowed on the trail. Thinner shields would have improved the look, but I didn't want to go down that road. A bit of thin gauge wire is necessary for the hand grips at the ends of the trails, but you'll need to pull that from your inventory. My only other quibble is that the trails do not connect very firmly to the carriage and it requires some extra work to ensure they remain aligned and don't collapse while the glue is setting.

These will be deployed in a future diorama.
